In the year of 1943, the idea of Scamper Night was conceived by Mrs. Dorothy King, wife of bandleader Wayne King. To have the Kenilworth Girls Scouts entertain their parents and their classmates every year in a musical revue. This revue would take place at Joseph Sears School at the end of January giving all the girls ample time from September through January to learn and rehearse for the main performance.

Mrs. Roy Getschow and Mrs. J. R. D. Stevenson were two of the parents who joined Mrs. King in all the original planning. All three of these women had 7^th Grade daughters who woud be participating in the very first revue.

It was decided at this time that each troop would write their own skits using the help of volunteer moms (and dads) and that all the skits would be linked together under a main theme.

There was a contest among the Girl Scouts to name this revue. Many suggested names were submitted, but finally the one name that prevailed was Scamper Night. Julie Sherman, an 8^th Grade Girl Scout was the winner of the contest. She is a younger sister of Jackie Barnes, a former Kenilworth resident (who lived in the house that Collette Kenyon lives in currently).

Over the last almost 68 years Scamper Night has continued to entertain and delight both those watching as well as those participating. It has truly become a tradition.
